The Dutch Touch
After Argentina controlled most of the match against the Ivory Coast in last night's final match. Crespo showed why he is still one of the premier forwards in the world netting an early goal in the 24th minute. 14 minutes later Javier Saviola added another goal to put the South Americans up for the remainder of the match. Match 6 saw the Orange Army of Holland battle a strong Serbia and Montenegro team that did not lose a match in qualifying. Both of these squads had no trouble qualifying for the cup, and in most cases Serbia and Montenegro would be favored to advance to the quarterfinals had they not been placed in the "group of death" alongside Argentina, Holland, and the Ivory Coast. The Dutch sided displayed a clinical expertise of total soccer. This was by far the most aesthetically pleasing match of the cup for any true soccer fan. Holland was able to move the ball about the field with quick touches, letting the ball do the work. The outplayed, outposessed, and outscored a strong defensive Serbia and Montenegro squad especially in the first 45 of the fixture. Arjen Robben scored the match's only goal in the 18th minute easily beating the Serbian offside trap, with a well-placed ball from Robin van Persie. Robben was the man of the match creating many dangerous scoring chances up top along with Manchester United's Ruud Van Nistelrooij. While Holland may not be the most talented team individually, they have proven time and time again that their possession based, team approach while scare even the most skilled teams across the world. The rest of the field would do well to take a page out of the playbook of Holland if they wish to dominate their opponents.
